WoW Private Server Subreddit (2024)

Hello everyone,

Frostforge is a progressive 3.3.5 server launched on March 28th with actually 200 active players from different time zone. Players have been soft locked to level 60 until July 5th. The new soft lock level is 70 (TBC). On average, we have around 20-55 players online at any time of the day.

For anyone who didn't have the chance to see it yet, here are some bullet points about my server;

• Crossfaction is enabled
• Rates are x7 for killing, x4 for experience, x2 for reputation and x2 for profession. There's an option NPC that turns your exp to X1 if you want to experience the vanilla content for a while before moving into TBC)
• Note that for this weekend only, XP will be x14 for killing, x8 for any other source of XP gains!
• NPC Bot module. You can get up to 4 bots of your choice, per character. You have to gear them as if you were gearing your own characters.
• Customized attunements so people don't skip progression. However, Vanilla attunements are removed since our community is mostly on TBC content now)

Frostforge is also known as THE place for Quality of Life improvements;

• Double talent points which means you have access to 102 talent points at level 60 (lots a new spec/meta)
• You can learn all professions on the same character
• Instant flight, instant mail, all flight path are discovered at level 1
• Instant BG - NPC Bots are smart and strong enough to not just turtle in the middle of WSG
• Original PvP titles reintroduced
• Instant dungeon regardless of the amount of people you have in your group
• Ressurect inside dungeon when you die (no walk of shame)
• No class restriction on gears (You can be feral druid with rogue tier sets, or a prot paladin with Warrior set gears, etc.)
• Gylph vendor (in exchange of a reasonable amount of gold) added for WOTLK glyphs
• Defense/Weapon skills automatically learned upon leveling up
• Gold dump vendor; bags, mounts, pets, heirlooms, etc.
• Transmog any type of armor/weapon
• T3 obtainable in different ways for xmog lovers
• Raven Lord obtainable for everyone
• Kara and Arcatraz key Binds to Accounts with extra copies for your alts
• Higher drop rates on Motes, you can even get Khorium ores from mining Adamantite
• Customised quests that allows you to get a customised vendor pet
• NPC buff bot selling lots of bots for littly tiny amount of golds

This subreddit seems to be more about publicly available private servers. I see the occasional post discussing emulation (a.k.a. cores), but it seems to be minimal.

Given the name of the subreddit, I can understand why.

TBC5MAN exists for like 5 years already and I bet many of you have tried or at least heard of it before (as it is also in the sticky since forever).

To summarise the server: all tbc content is scaled to accommodate 5 players, which makes it quite a unique experience!

To go into a bit more detail to give you a honest review:

Why am I promoting it now?

On 30th of August there will be a server reset, so everyone is back to zero and we can progress together.

What is the biggest upside of the server?

The scaling is really well done, while it is not easy it is still doable with even unexperienced players. Especially if you have some friends joining you progressing on here and figuring out how to do the encounters as five is the most fun I've ever had in WoW.

What is the biggest downside?

Sadly the population dwindled over the past few years. As raids are only for 5 players instead of 25 you kinda only need a fifth of the population or even less as it is instant 70 and everyone is more or less raid ready. But this is a mmorpg so the more the merrier. In the worst times this server had around 50 players in the best up to 1k, which sounds less to todays standards, but is really more than enough for a 5man pve focused server (take it times 6 or even 7 to compare it).

What are the biggest changes to blizzlike?

As stated above, everyone starts with lvl 70 and green (but good) starter gear and is ready to go dungeons or even directly kara. To make it more alt friendly profession rates are 5x and rep rates are 3x and no attunements needed. Also every tbc dungeon and zul'farak is scaled to 70 and drops the blue hc gear. Furthermore there are three custom raids:

Onyxia, which can be triggered to T5,T6 or T6.5

End of Naxxramas with Sapphiron and Kel'Thuzad both are equal to T6/T6.5

AQ40 Cthun, whose harder than swp

How is the pug scene?

Many players come in groups of 5 already, but that does not mean there is no pugging at all. Running older tiers and normal dungeons is rewarded with gold, a chance for cosmetic items and even vote points.

Is there a cash shop?

There is a vote and cash shop yes. With votepoints (and cash) you can get stuff like buffbots (to give your group missing class buffs, those bots are also at the start of every dungeon and raid though) or cosmetic items or drums (if youre too lazy to farm). With cash you can give your char the lvl 70 dungeon set and reps of the starter factions - so not too advantageous.

How is PvP?

It is and always will be a pve focused server, BUT there still is active pvp going on. Arenas are popping, bgs are also scaled down to less players (av is replaced with a deathmatch mode) and there is a custom ffa pvp event a few times a day which grants cosmetics and gold.

Is the server alive at NA times?

Most players and the server itself is located in Europe, I've heard at NA times it kinda gets lonely, but that is changeable if enough people join us.

Is Multiboxing allowed?

In Pve yes, in PvP you get banned. It can be quite fun and really challenging to try on the whole content by yourself, the mboxing community is also really helpful and welcoming to new players.

Hello all.

I have been using 3.3.5a private servers for years now and recently decided I wanted to set the client up on a Steam deck.

The issue I am running into is this.

I can copy over the Naarus repack folder with all game files. I can get the server set up so I can connect.

Once I connect I get an error 134 on the steam deck. Something about being unable to load the map.

ALL OF THIS loads fine and works on desktop. It is only once I get to the steam deck that I get the error 134.

I have even tried installing the files through Lutris and then setting the realmlist to my server IP but I still get the same issue. Error #134. Any tips or steps I can take?

I see all over the internet people having easy success setting this up so I am confused why I am having issues at all but would love any tips and tricks from the community.

Its near prime time NA right now and yet Stormforge is sitting around 350 players, Chromiecraft is around 180. Neither seem to have NA guilds that are actively raiding higher end content yet alone competing for server firsts / speed running.

Onyxia might be an option but it seems like all the top guilds raid at EU times which I can't make.

Where are the hardcore NA raiders hiding?

I'm looking for a few people to help me test a small project I've been working on: The Season of the Crusade.

The major goal of the server is to have a Vanilla experience with the fixes & changes that were implemented in TBC. The focus is mainly on classes being more balanced and the playstyles being more fleshed out. The major changes to achieve this are:

• TBC Talents w/ 61 talents being available at level 60
• Spells and Abilities introduced between levels 61 and 70 are now introduced between levels 51 and 60
• Tier sets from TBC have been implemented into Vanilla, with all roles for all classes having tier available

This project differentiates itself from Project Epoch by having a smaller scope with less/no custom content added into the game. The plan is to implement changes that TBC added and nothing more. My hope is that this server can find its own niche by either being available to players as a waitroom for Project Epoch (expected release early next year), or being for people who want less custom content.

The list of features currently implemented:

• Level cap of 60
• Outland inaccessible
• All spells and abilities available at level 60
• TBC talents and racials w/ 61 talents at level 60
• Draenei and Blood Elfs added
• Dungeon sets have been reworked to match the TBC dungeon sets
• Tier 1 has been reworked to match the Tier 4 set, including tier 1 for all specs/roles. Tier tokens have been added and vendors added to Stormwind and Orgrimmar
• Dungeon difficulty has been slightly increased to account for the TBC power creep
• Level 60 dungeon reputations have been expanded and reputation vendors have been added:
  • Thorium Brotherhood for BRD, LBRS, and UBRS
  • Argent Dawn for Strat-L, Strat-D, and Scholo
  • Shen'dralar for DM-E, W, and N
• Black Lotus is now has a chance to drop from all max level herbs (requires herbalism 300)
• Daily dungeons quests

The list of features I am currently working to implement:

• Tier 2 sets reworked similar to the changes w/ Tier 1, specifically helm & pants from Ragnaros & Ony
• Downscaling the Caverns of Time dungeons and reputation vendor for level 60
• Expanding the reputation vendors further (the gear they offer at the moment is lacking)
• Expanding the profession rewards for the crafter (similar to the BoP patterns & gear that exist in TBC)
• Adding badge drops and badge vendors that offer downscaled Phase 1 TBC gear at level 60
• Reducing the scaling of Molten Core from 40 players to 25 players, and Onyxia from 20 to 10 players.
• Reducing the scaling of UBRS from 10 to 5 players

There are a lot more changes that I have on my to-do list to really solidify this server as a perfect blend of Vanilla and TBC, but what I have listed here is what I am actively working on implementing.

Working on the changes that have been made so far has gotten me excited for the future of the project. So many of the armor and weapons are so iconic, but most don't make much of an appearance. There is a good chance that on a blizz-like Vanilla server, a warrior will wear LHH, Truestrike shoulders, SGC, and devilsaur for a year until AQ launches. The changes to just the classes alone shake up the experience, and updating the dungeon/tier sets really breathes life into the class/gear meta. The rest of the changes are aimed at QoL updates (like the Black Lotus change) and bringing newer features into Vanilla that flesh out the experience.

At the moment, I'm looking for a few players that have either Vanilla or TBC experience that can run some dungeons and give feedback for how the classes play and how the difficulty feels. I want the classes to feel similar to they way they feel in TBC, and I don't want the game to be so easy that its boring with the power creep. If I'm getting good feedback, then we can start testing the raids and look into expanding the server for more players.

To battle, Hero of Azeroth!

(solved! contested zones no longer work like they used to, this is generally a non-issue nowdays. TYVM eveyone who explained and gave solutions)

So, I like to do quests and just explore. I love the music, and all the little silly things to see and do. Solo questing is my focus. I don't wanna get ganked as soon as I step in a contested zone. So either fully no pvp or pvp that's truly optional (manually set flag or attack someone). I don't care if others pvp nearby, I just wanna run around Azeroth w/o some twit with issues jumping me.

I've been enjoying Turtle greatly at the starter levels, but I'm about to level into contested zones, and would rather delete the game (I have others to play, ofc) than have some asshole spawncamp me.

Any servers w/o involuntary pvp? (also, why doesn't this forum have a FAQ)

Bit about the server: it’s a 3.3.5 progressive server currently in TBC phase 2. It is a server where you hire 4 bots.

This is my feedback as a player so take what I say with a grain of salt and form your own opinion if you wish to check out the server.

Pros: 1) The owner of the server makes changes often and for the most part cares about the feedback he receives from the community

2) you can have every profession

3) raids only take 3-5 people + bots so you don’t have to coordinate 25 people being online at the same time

4) no pay to win shop, it is cosmetic and convenience stuff like bags and fastest flying mount

Cons: 1) it is low population between 30-50 people online during main hours… however lots of people just have many wows open to run raids or use mb program and play with theirselves so it is hard to find groups.

2) there is no auction house module in the server so there is no healthy economy for the server. I prefer small population servers and this is the only server I have played progressive that do not have auction house module. I like to farm materials people need and sell them but you can’t do that there because nobody buys anything for 2 reasons: one reason is that people put stuff up for too much gold and nobody buys it and since nobody buys anything there can’t be organic stimulation of growth

3) dual specialization is 1000 golds for some reason

4) custom quest to upgrade classic legendary to scale to level 70 which means you are spending lots of time doing old content instead of current content. Bunch of people have legendaries so it doesn’t mean anything or cool to have one if everyone has one. It has slowly become a farm server like Diablo 3 or something.

5) there is no events or anything, no in game events or bonus weekend events or anything of this sort

most alarming thing for anyone considering this server: the staff. it’s 2 people the owner and his friend. The owner himself is nice and I think he cares about the community and wants what is best for it. However the Friend is very rude to every player on the server in the server discord and in the game. It is a turn off.. the time I joined the server he was calling people lazy for suggesting the smallest things. I don’t want to say there is corruption or anything like that because I do not know for sure but he does use his GM to summon his personal character and btw everyone knows his personal character which is unprofessional of staff in a server.

The most helpful people in the server are not even staff but the players theirselves. I never played a server where the only GM is a jerk to everyone and the players are the nice ones lol. Not sure why anyone is staff if they don’t do anything other then be rude to players. I needed help in classic months ago and it took the GM 1 day to help me with something that took one second.

closing thoughts: such a good server with so much potential and its so fun but its hard when these important things get ignored.

Leveling: 10/10Amount of bugs: hardly any.. maybe 1 or 2 here and there Server uptime: 7/10 it used to crash a lot but owner fixed the main issue so now just random crash once a day or so.Raids: 10/10 they are super funPvP: 6/10 works nice with flask buff he put in to fight the bots Owner of the server: 9/10 I think he cares what his players want Staff: 0/10 they dont do anything the owner does everything and then the few people in discord who help otherwise useless Community: 8/10 everyone I have talked to has been nice and helpful, no toxic people here

I am hesitant to recommend it because of these few things, but if those don’t bother you then check the server out but I dont think I will stay

WotLK 5 Man launch on September 27, 2024,!
