Record-Breaking Humanoid Robot Walks in 48 Hours! HMND 01 Alpha (2025)

Revolutionizing Robotics: Humanoid's Alpha Robot Sets New Standards in Speed and Versatility

Humanoid, a UK-based robotics firm, has unveiled the HMND 01 Alpha Bipedal robot, a groundbreaking achievement in the field of robotics. This robot is a testament to the company's rapid development capabilities, having been built from concept to working prototype in just five months.

The Alpha robot is designed to revolutionize industrial automation and assistive robotics, offering a unique blend of fast simulation training, modular design, and practical locomotion. It can walk, turn, run, squat, hop, and recover from omnidirectional force, making it versatile for various environments.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Alpha robot is its ability to reach stable walking in just 48 hours after final assembly. This is a significant achievement, as most field teams typically take much longer to achieve the same milestone. The company attributes this rapid progress to its precise digital design and simulation-led training methods.

Engineers utilized ultra-accurate 3D modeling to minimize the gap between virtual prototypes and physical machines. By employing Nvidia Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab, the team trained over 52.5 million seconds of locomotion data in simulation, which would have otherwise taken nearly 19 months with conventional training methods. This accelerated training process allowed the robot to take its first real-world steps after just 3.2 million seconds of training.

The Alpha robot stands 179 centimeters tall and boasts 29 degrees of freedom, enabling it to withstand external pushes of up to 350 Newtons during operation. It supports a 15-kilogram (33-pound) bimanual payload and can be equipped with either five-finger hands or simple grippers, making it adaptable for various tasks.

Advanced perception capabilities are provided by six RGB cameras, two depth sensors, and a six-microphone array, allowing the robot to navigate and interact with its environment effectively. The onboard computing system, powered by Nvidia Jetson Orin AGX and an Intel i9 processor, ensures efficient processing, and a swappable battery provides up to three hours of runtime.

Humanoid's Alpha robot is designed to serve multiple environments, including manufacturing, logistics, and home assistance. It can manipulate objects, coordinate with wheeled or humanoid robots, and communicate using displays, audio, and LEDs. The KinetIQ reasoning framework further enhances its capabilities, enabling advanced planning through vision-language and action-based models.

Artem Sokolov, Founder and CEO of Humanoid, emphasized the robot's potential to address real-world challenges. He highlighted the rising workforce shortages, particularly in sectors facing gaps of up to 27 percent, and the significant scale of unpaid care work worldwide, which amounts to over 16 billion hours daily. Sokolov believes that humanoid robots can revolutionize domestic and caregiving roles, freeing humans to focus on higher-value and safer work, thereby improving productivity and quality of life.

The HMND 01 Alpha Bipedal robot builds upon the earlier wheeled HMND 01 platform, which has already demonstrated commercial proofs of concept. Its modular architecture allows for future upgrades to hands, upper-body systems, and external coverings without a full redesign, ensuring adaptability and longevity.

As the humanoid robotics field intensifies, Humanoid positions the Alpha robot as a fast-moving platform capable of adapting to industrial work and eventually daily life inside human homes. This rapid development and adaptability are setting new standards in the industry, and the future of robotics looks promising with Humanoid leading the way.
