Over the previous season, Giannis stayed with the Bucks despite persistent trade chatter. Today, it appears the relationship could be reaching a turning point.
Giannis recently removed all Bucks-related content from his social media, leaving only posts tied to his NBA championship and NBA Cup celebrations. His X bio now reads simply, “NBA Athlete.”
The initial wave of trade rumors surfaced in May when ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that the two-time MVP was open to a trade, marking a rare candid acknowledgment from a player typically linked to his current team for the long haul.
While Giannis did not explicitly request a trade during the summer, multiple franchises, including the New York Knicks, were reportedly exploring possibilities around him.
When pressed about the rumors in October after a game against the Knicks, Giannis tried to minimize outside noise. “Who said that? … I’m here representing my team. That’s it,” he said. “We beat the Knicks. … I didn’t read that article, I’m trying to stay away from all the rumors, speculation and trade and all this.”
Entering the season, Milwaukee appeared to be in a stable place with him, yet recent remarks suggest growing frustration. Giannis publicly challenged his teammates’ focus last week.
“Nobody should have a personal agenda,” he told reporters. “Nobody should worry about what they want for themselves. Worry only about winning mentality. The more we win, the more everything takes care of itself.”
Giannis’ frustration is understandable given the Bucks’ rough start. They sit at 9-13 after eight losses in their last nine games, a record that isn’t reflected in his on-court production, where he leads the team in scoring (30.6), rebounds (10.7), and assists (6.4).
Few players have left as lasting a mark on Bucks history as Giannis, and he remains a near-collective icon just a few years removed from a championship. His current social media activity, however, has sparked speculation about a possible departure from Milwaukee.
