Destiny 2 Reveals Patch Notes for Update 8.1.0.2 (2025)

Bungie releases a new update for Destiny 2 in October, correcting a bunch of remaining bugs and issues with the game, while also keeping The Last Word as a damage-dealing monster. As a popular live-service title, there's never a shortage of things to do for Bungie, releasing new episodic content, limited time events, and updates to things that may have broken or, at least, are not working quite as expected in Destiny 2.

At times, Bungie can even switch plans based on player feedback. For example, one of the aspects to Episode Echoes that left people underwhelmed was the timegated and slower rollout for the seasonal story, basically taking three weeks to get through 1 act, before taking a 3-week break. In response to feedback, Bungie announced that Destiny 2 Episode Revenant would scrap the 3-week rollout and instead offer players the entire Act 1 story all at once, letting players enjoy it at their own pace.

Update 8.1.0.2 for Destiny 2 is mainly a bug fixing patch, addressing many issues with activities like Excision and seasonal content, UI, and even gear. Specifically, the Warlock's Sanguine Alchemy now has a debuff icon so players can see when they've been marked by an enemy. The Titan's Peacekeeper boots will now no longer grant SMGs a damage buff even when swapped out, and Heavy Burst Hand Cannons and Revision Zero have also been adjusted. However, Destiny 2's The Last Word exotic hand cannon was discovered to be doing too much damage to other players. While Bungie fixed that, it intentionally left the PvE damage against enemies alone, letting players take advantage of the buff.

It's worth noting that not everything made it into these patch notes, something which happened with the previous Destiny 2 update with player vaults. According to the official Destiny 2 Team social media account, after the initial solar ignition damage, boss level enemies now gain "progressively higher damage resistance" to additional short-term ignitions. Based on that, it seems players won't be able to continually stack solar damage through ignitions to essentially burn down enemies quickly. Naturally, many fans responding to the post weren't too thrilled with this change.

Recently, Bungie also announced another change to upcoming content, specifically delaying the start date for Iron Banner within Episode Revenant. While initially planning an early November appearance, Destiny 2 players will have to wait a few weeks longer as the Iron Banner now arrives on November 26 with Control being the first session's game mode, followed by Tribute during the second appearance.

• Fixed an issue where the incorrect skybox was showing during The Final Shape ending cinematic.

Seasonal

• Fixed an issue where Act I progression would be blocked if the player abandoned the prologue quest.
• Fixed an issue where the Tonic Capsule would soft lock the game when accessed through the Quests menu.
• Fixed an issue where players could get locked out of creating Tonics if the Tonic Brewing Guide went to the Postmaster.
• Fixed an issue where Major Fieldworks did not play their corresponding voiceover.
• Fixed an issue where onscreen tutorials could not be dismissed during Fieldwork missions.

Onslaught: Salvation

• Fixed an issue where only the first player opening the extra chest at the end of wave 50 of Onslaught would earn the reward.

Raid and Dungeons

Vesper's Host

• Fixed an issue where Master difficulty was not rewarding Artifice Armor.
• Fixed an issue where players could duplicate nuclear cores.

Pathfinder

• Fixed an issue where Pathfinder third completion was not giving rewards.

Armor

Sanguine Alchemy

• Added adebuff icon so players can identify that they have been marked by an enemy.

Peacekeepers

• Fixed an issue where SMGs could maintain their damage buff indefinitely when swapping between weapons.

Weapons

Heavy Burst Hand Cannons

• Fixed an issue where they were dealing slightly reduced precision damage.

Revision Zero

• Fixed an issue where Revision Zero would lock into sniper mode when using the Heavy Burst origin trait.

The Last Word

• Fixed an issue where The Last Word was doing too much damage against players.
  • Increased damage vs. combatantats has not been readjusted.
    • Enjoy the PvE buff and yeehaw responsibly.
  • Weapon has been reenabled in PvP and Gambit.

Emblems

• Fixed an issue where the Bungie Foundation Through the Storm emblem was missing its title in the Collections screen.

Artifact

• Fixed an issue where the Retinal Burn Artifact perk has the wrong name assigned in the Artifact screen.

Localization

• Fixed an issue with the French translation of the Precision Instrument perk.
• Fixed an issue where text would become truncated for some languages on the Season Content Overview and Offer screen.
